Trekka uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to keep our platform
working properly, improve your experience, and understand how our services
are used. This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, which ones we use,
why we use them, and how you can control them.
This policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy,
which provides broader context on how we handle your personal data under the
NDPA 2023, Ghana DPA 2012,
and where applicable, the GDPR.
By continuing to use the Trekka platform after being shown our cookie
notice, you consent to the use of cookies as described in this policy —
except for essential cookies, which are always active.
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device — computer, tablet, or phone — when you visit a website or use a web application. They help websites remember information about your visit, keep you logged in, and function smoothly across pages.
Cookies are not programmes and cannot carry viruses or malware. They simply store small pieces of text that websites and applications can read back on your next visit or during your current session.
Cookie Duration — Two Main Types
- Session cookies — Exist only while your browser is open. They are automatically deleted when you close your browser or app session. They are typically used to keep you logged in and maintain your booking progress during a visit.
- Persistent cookies — Remain on your device after you close your browser, until they expire or you delete them. They are used to remember your preferences across multiple visits.
Beyond cookies, we also use similar technologies including web beacons, pixels, local storage, and session storage. These work in comparable ways and are covered by this policy. See Section 5 for details.
The Cookies We Use
Trekka uses four categories of cookies. Each serves a distinct purpose, and not all of them require your consent.
Third-Party Cookies
Some cookies on the Trekka platform are set by trusted third-party partners rather than by Trekka directly. These partners have their own privacy and cookie policies that govern how they handle data collected through their cookies.
Trekka is not responsible for the cookies or privacy practices of third-party services. We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of these providers directly. Links to relevant opt-out tools are provided in Section 6.

Other Tracking Technologies
In addition to cookies, Trekka may use the following similar technologies to improve platform functionality and understand usage:
- Web Beacons (Pixels) — Small invisible images embedded in web pages or emails that help us confirm whether a page was loaded or an email was opened. Used primarily for analytics and marketing measurement.
- Local Storage — A browser feature that allows websites to store larger amounts of data on your device than cookies can. Trekka uses local storage to save booking progress and session state locally.
- Session Storage — Similar to local storage but automatically cleared when your browser session ends. Used to maintain your booking flow within a single session.
- Mobile Device Identifiers — On mobile devices, advertising identifiers may be used in place of or alongside cookies. On iOS, this is the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA). On Android, this is the Google Advertising ID (GAID). You can reset or limit these identifiers in your device's privacy settings.
To limit ad tracking on iOS, go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking and disable "Allow Apps to Request to Track." On Android, go to Settings → Google → Ads and enable "Opt out of Ads Personalisation."
Managing Your Cookie Preferences
You have full control over which non-essential cookies Trekka uses. There are several ways to manage your preferences:
Browser Settings
All major browsers allow you to view, manage, and delete cookies through their settings. You can:
- View all cookies stored by websites you have visited
- Delete cookies for specific websites or all websites at once
- Block third-party cookies from being set
- Configure your browser to delete all cookies when you close it
Third-Party Opt-Out Tools
You can opt out of specific tracking services directly using the following tools:
- Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on
- Google Ad Settings — Manage personalised ads
- Facebook Ad Preferences — Control Facebook ad targeting
Impact of Disabling Cookies
Disabling non-essential cookies will not prevent you from using the Trekka platform. However, disabling or blocking essential cookies may affect core functionality:
- You may be automatically logged out between pages
- The booking and checkout process may not complete successfully
- Your saved preferences — language, currency, recent routes — will not persist
- Some pages may load more slowly without performance-related cookies
Essential cookies cannot be disabled through our preference panel because they are strictly necessary for the platform to function. You can block them through your browser settings, but doing so will prevent you from using Trekka.
Cookie Preference Centre
Use the panel below to review and update your cookie preferences at any time. Your choices are saved in your browser and apply to this device. Essential cookies are always active and cannot be turned off.
Do Not Track (DNT) Signals
Some browsers allow you to send a "Do Not Track" signal to websites you visit, indicating that you do not wish to be tracked across sites.
Currently, there is no universal technical standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals, and the signals themselves are inconsistently implemented across browsers. As a result, Trekka does not currently alter its cookie behaviour in response to DNT signals.
We recommend using our Cookie Preference Centre above or your browser's cookie settings as the most reliable way to control your tracking preferences on the Trekka platform.
Updates to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time as our platform evolves, new technologies emerge, or legal requirements change. When we make material changes, we will:
- Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
- Display a notice on the Trekka platform for a reasonable period following the update
- Notify registered users via email where the changes are significant
We encourage you to revisit this page periodically to stay informed about how Trekka uses cookies.
